Yes, it’s true.

Whether you get your vitamins from supplements or eat carefully to get nutrients from your daily food supply, if you live on only fat free or very low fat meals, your hair will definitely start to suffer.

The lack of fat can also have a negative impact on skin and nails.

Eat Healthy Fat For Lush Hair

Hair utilizes fat stored in the body to thicken and develop luster or shine. Does this mean you should go out and do fat laden meals to get a blinding shine for your tresses?

No, the key according to nutritional experts is to eat a well balanced meal with some healthy fats. Healthy fats which are also known as unsaturated fats include avocadoes, black and green olives and nut butters such as almond, cashew, peanut butter, sesame and sunflower seed.

Other great shine and hair healthy foods include macadamias, hazelnuts, pecan, almond, cashews, pistachios, brazil nuts, peanuts, pine nuts and walnuts. Seeds are also great for thick lush tresses, especially sesame, pumpkin, ground flaxseed and sunflower seeds.

Nutritional experts say the best foods of the unsaturated fat family are albacore tuna, salmon and extra virgin olive oil.

Fats which won’t help grow lush healthy tresses include saturated and trans fats.

Saturated fats include those found in meat and other animal products. Trans fats are found in foods with labels such as “hydrogenated” or partially hydrogenated”.

Lean Protein Helps Hair Grow

Nutritionists and trichologists preach the hair growing gospel of lean protein. Since human hair is almost 100% protein, it needs a constant supply every day to keep it growing.

When protein isn’t provided in adequate supply, hair growth will stall and possibly falter. In fact, without the proper supply of protein, hair may start to thin and may even start to shed.

Protein can alo be found in some of our favorite shampoo’s conditioners and hair masques. We recommend:

1. Davines Defining Protein Sculpting Lotion pH 4.0, 250ml/8.5oz
2. Biosilk Fruit Cocktail Reconstructing Treatment
3.  Davines Momo Moisturizing Shampoo pH 5.5, 250ml/8.5oz
4.
L’Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Intense Repair Shampoo

How to Style Your Curly Hair /blog/2011/08/how-to-style-your-curly-hair/ /blog/2011/08/how-to-style-your-curly-hair/#comments Tue, 09 Aug 2011 18:45:36 +0000 /blog/?p=1455 To be truthful, naturally curly hair is the kind of style that is not easy for everyone to accept and love. A short style may turn into a frizzy mess at the first sign of rain or elevated humidity in the air, while the mid length cuts seem to unravel halfway through the business day and before long the curly mess takes on the proportions of a birdâ€s nest. Fortunately, curly hair doesnâ€t have to be that complicated! There are a number of hairstyle ideas which will leave you pleased with your thick tresses.

Blow Dryers Can Cause Frizz

What causes frizzy curls? Not even the best shampoo will undo the frizz if you perpetuate the one behavior that causes it: the blow dryer. To help get your hair ready for being shaped into the style you have chosen, the odds are good that using a hot air dryer is your preferred method of drying, but in so doing the hair is prevented to develop its natural curl. This of course makes your blonde mane incapable of following the layered look you have chosen.

Use Care Flat Ironing Your Curls

Another heat source that has your curls see red is the straightening iron. For it to work properly the iron becomes very hot and thus temporarily relaxes the spiral but doing so comes at a cost: frizz. Short cuts will soon show signs of breakage that leave the hair looking frizzy while long cuts will not show the breakage as clearly but before long will present with split ends. Although straightened hair is the preferred condition for application of highlights and color, it is not advisable to overdo this procedure.

Wet, Conditioned Hair is Best

Two of the most commonly quoted tips revolve around the use of conditioning products instead of shampoo and continuing with the styling while the hair is still moist. How to style your curly hair depends on the cut; generally speaking, medium cuts may just need a running through with your fingers.

Get a  Moisturizing  Conditioner

Those who have artificially curled hair will appreciate the advice to invest in a high quality leave in conditioner. Permed hair is notorious for its dryness and you will do well to augment any natural oils with a leave in product that is highly rated for its long duration of supplying nutrients and moisture to the hair.

2011 is sure to be a great year. Youâ€ve probably already made a list of resolutions. Better business marketing maybe, healthy eating, and more physical activity are likely at the top of your list. We want you to also make a resolution to adopt a healthy hair care regimen.

Finding a stylist is important for maintaining healthy hair.

You need an expert to help you reach your healthy hair goals. You need a colorist to give you a new, sassy hue. And you really need a hair professional to tell you the truth about the state of your hair, even when you donâ€t want to hear it. So, get yourself a professional fashion stylist.

Practice home hair maintenance.

Yes, you can keep your hair salon-fresh at home with professional hair products. Wrapping, pin-curling, and sleeping on satin pillowcases are a few of our favorite suggestions. However, talk to your hair stylist about specific tips for your hair type, texture, and style. Theyâ€ll be glad to offer their expertise and in case of hair loss problem, recommends a solution. After all, your hair represents their work.

Last but not least: try something new.

Go for the inverted bob youâ€ve always wanted. Get that fiery red and make a statement. Or simply change the direction of your bangs. You might discover you have a new favorite hair style.

Is Your Hair Healthy? /blog/2011/01/is-your-hair-healthy/ /blog/2011/01/is-your-hair-healthy/#respond Thu, 20 Jan 2011 17:10:50 +0000 /blog/?p=937 – Check the Comb

lux

Pluck out a strand of hair at the root and examine the base. Strong hair has a thick bulb. “If thereâ€s no bulb, the hair follicle isnâ€t healthy,” says Michael Shaun Corby, global creative director for Alterna Hair Care. The cause? Damage from styling or, potentially, genetically linked hair loss in women and male pattern baldness.

Looking for hair loss treatment? First, you need to determine if you have a hair loss problem. The tips below will help you to do just that:

Give It a Tug

Wrap a strand of hair around your index finger and thumb (like a piece of string), then use your other hand to tug on it. If it snaps immediately, your hair is lacking moisture; if it stretches “like bubble gum,” says Corby, it needs protein, which strengthens the hairâ€s keratin bonds.

Do the “Sink or Float” Test

Drop a strand of hair into a glass of water. A healthy strand will float. If it sinks, the shaft is porous. This can happen to color-treated hair, but it can also occur with a protein deficiency.

To get a fair picture of your hairâ€s overall health, repeat tests on at least four strands from different parts of your head, suggests Donna Maggi, education manager of Nioxin, a hair-and scalp-care company.

Stop a Bad-Hair Day Before It Starts

If you go outside with wet hair

Outdoor elements (wind, cool temperatures) can be rough even for dry hair, explains Corby. But when hair is wet, itâ€s actually more fragile and susceptible to breakage.

Healthy-hair fix: Try styling products designed to cut drying time. The Paul Mitchell hair products, namely Paul Mitchell Express Style line, is formulated with technology to help hair dry faster.
